Busted! Mendocino Innkeeper earns vice charge.

Friday, June 5, 2009

In a startling discovery a Mendocino Innkeeper has been found to be in posession of several illicit substances. Shocking charges of pandering, corruption of morals and trafficking have been leveled at the seemingly mild mannered local business owner. In a midnight confession, Charles Reinhart - owner of the much esteemed Joshua Grindle Inn has admitted to possessing a large store of exotic substances, both intoxicating and stimulating. Found at the stately Victorian, located at 44800 Little Lake Road in Mendocino were a large cache of wines, 50 lbs of highly refined sugar, an incredible 10 lbs of "sweet" organic butter, and a staggering amount of intoxicating chocolate.

Reinhart and staff were reported to be in a frenzied condition under the influence of caffeine and several pounds of powerful organic Sumatran were uncovered at the business.

In a community rocked by the scandal, only close neighbors seem unsurprised and willing to comment. "The shameless smiles worn by all who departed the business made me suspect something unsavory was going on." said a woman who asked not to be identified.

In recent breaking news, the investigation seems to have widened to include other Select Registry inns that in cahoots with the Reinharts would dispatch unwitting "mules" to beautiful locations up and down the North Coast.

In comments to the media in his own defense, Reinhart explains "I never intended to contribute to anyone's delinquency, but things quickly got out of control. Once word circulated about the high quality and value of our product, the Joshua Grindle Inn went "viral". I mean, you can't find a AAA Four Diamond B&B anywhere else in Mendocino Village, and with the Select Registry connection and Trip Advisor reviews, we had our bonifides."

An arraignment date has not been set. At this time, it is believed that the business continues to operate and rebukes criticism. According to Cindy Reinhart, the defendants' moll,  "Everyone does it". We're being unfairly singled out for doing it better. We will continue to serve traveling hedonists with personalized service and compassionate care. Our reputation will not be tarnished by humorless accusations."

Investigation widens

Corruption charges against the Mendocino Innkeeper widened today with new evidence implicating several school bus drivers, local Post Office employees and previous owners of the inn. In a breathtaking new development, news has spread about the defendants brazen influence peddling and complicity with local establishments. Not quite the brainchild of the accused, it now seems the current owner's were actively coached by previous innkeepers. Testimony has surfaced alleging that the Reinhart's own child would deliver cookies to the school bus drivers, and that bags of baked goods routinely crossed the counters at the Mendocino Post Office and Ford House Museum.

We have now learned that an atmosphere of decadence has long prevailed at the North Coast landmark, having been passed on by retiring "hospitality pro's" the Jacobsen's and Moorehead's. Long considered to be pillars of respectability, it is now believed that much of the Reinhart's enterprise was in place when they purchased the business.

Shockingly, the "recipe" for the operation was meticulously outlined by two of the previous owners in an actual "cookbook" of temptations. This infamous codex - "Mendocino Mornings" is said to be found on many a culinary anarchists bookshelf. Excerpts of dubious authenticity can be found online.

"Anarchist's Cookbook"?

It is clear that these "Godfathers" in crime now share culpability for the community's public shame.

In a stunning defense, Reinhart claims that his "Medical Frivolity" License and his legally recognized status as a "Comapassionate Caregiver" entitles him to up to 10 rooms of mirth, seduction and contentment. While these claims are somewhat in doubt, Reinhart remains under "House Arrest" and is permitted visitors.
In a statement to the media, Reinhart made the following comments: "I am appreciative of and thankful for the outpouring of support I have received. I am confident that these outrageous charges will be dropped. It is a comfort for me to be able to continue to serve the humane needs of the weary traveler."
